Located in the southeast corner of British Columbia, the East Kootenay region is characterized by beautiful mountain ranges and valleys, and the unique communities that populate them. Success by 6 is represented in 7 of these communities: Cranbrook, Kimberley, Creston, Fernie, Elkford, Sparwood and the Windermere Valley as well as 5 bands of the Ktunaxa First Nation.
Success By 6®, an early childhood development initiative of the United Way, is dedicated to providing all children with a good start in life. The East Kootenay Success By 6 initiative hires a Regional Coordinator and is governed by a Council of Partners. The Council of Partners is a unique partnership between representatives from the East Kootenay Credit Union, MCFD, the United Way of Cranbrook and Kimberley, as well as members from business, community groups and ECD professionals.
Success By 6® builds and enhances community through engaging citizens in early childhood development, and funding programs that strengthen services for young children and their families. Funded programs include literacy, nutrition, children’s play, parenting and family skills development. It helps to ensure that children ages 0 to 6 develop the emotional, social, cognitive, and physical skills they need as they enter school.
The East Kootenay Success By 6 initiative works closely with the Success By 6 Provincial Network and strives to share information, resources and inspiration from all over British Columbia.
